Eduard (Eddie) Bukin
All slides, R application exercises and project bundles on this site were written and taught by Eduard (Eddie) Bukin β an applied economist and open-source data scientist working on impact evaluation, land markets and geospatial analysis.

He has spent over a decade at institutions including the World Bank and the FAO, and taught MP223 as a PhD candidate at Justus Liebig University Giessen, where his doctoral research concerns land privatisation in Kazakhstan.

About the course
MP223 Applied Econometric Methods for the Social Sciences was taught at JLU Giessen in Summer Semester 2022. It introduces regression analysis as a tool for causal reasoning, taught entirely through R: every method on the slides is immediately practised on real data in a matching application exercise.
The course covers seven topics β introduction and research design, data wrangling, describing data, simple regression, multiple regression, panel regression and instrumental variables.
Reusing these materials
The materials are published openly so that students can revisit them after the course and so that other instructors can build on them. The repository contains every source file β .qmd decks, .Rmd exercises and the data they use.
