About the course
MK-068-EN (TM) Empirical Research Methods is a module of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management (FB09) at JLU Giessen. The materials here are its quantitative part, Statistics and Econometrics: seven weeks that go from populations and samples, through descriptive statistics, distributions and correlation, to hypothesis testing, confidence intervals and linear regression, with worked examples from development economics and agricultural research. It was taught as Part 2 of the module in 2023/24 and as Part 1 in 2024/25.
Both cohorts have their own page: Winter Semester 2024/25 and Winter Semester 2023/24.
Reusing these materials
The materials are published openly so that students can revisit them after the course and so that other instructors can build on them. The repository contains every source file: the .qmd decks and the parts they include, the R setup scripts, the cleaned datasets with the scripts that produced them, and the PDFs shared with each cohort.
If you reuse or adapt them, please credit Eduard Bukin and link back to ebukin.github.io. The datasets carry their own acknowledgement requirements; see the datasets page.
Colophon
Built with Quarto. Slides are revealjs decks written in Quarto markdown with R code chunks; their executed results are frozen in the repository so that the site rebuilds without re-running the analysis. The site is deployed automatically from the GitHub repository and follows the structure of the authorβs MP223 Applied Econometrics course site.
